Shamel Thompson is the founder and owner of WebNova Digital, a website design and development business built specifically for small businesses. She currently resides in Newport News, Virginia, though she was born and raised in nearby Norfolk, Virginia. The Hampton Roads area has always been home, and it's where Shamel continues to live, work, and serve the local business community.
From an early age, Shamel has been fascinated by computers — not just using them, but understanding how they actually work. She was drawn to the way prompts, code, letters, and commands could come together to create everything we know about computers and the internet today. That curiosity never really went away; it only grew into a genuine passion for building things that live online.
Interestingly, Shamel didn't always know that web building would be her path. The spark came years ago when a close friend of hers started her own web company — but it was far more in-depth than simply putting pages together. Watching her work opened her eyes to what was possible. Many years later, Shamel decided to build something of her own, and WebNova Digital was born. Today, she loves every part of it.
WebNova Digital was born from a lesson Shamel learned the hard way as an entrepreneur. She had been building up a business idea of her own, and for the most part, things were going extremely well. She eventually reached the point where she was ready to pursue funding to grow and expand — only to realize that she didn't have everything banks needed to take her seriously. One of the key missing pieces was a professional business website.
That moment shaped everything. Shamel understood, in a very real and personal way, how important credibility is when you're trying to grow. A business can have a great idea, solid momentum, and real potential — but if it doesn't look legitimate online, opportunities can slip away. Rather than stay stuck, she decided to learn how to build her own website. Once she did, she knew she wanted to help other business owners do the same.
Shamel believes that every small business deserves to look as professional online as it is in real life. She knows what it feels like to work hard, build something meaningful, and still be overlooked because the online presence isn't there yet. WebNova Digital exists to close that gap — giving small businesses modern, credible websites they can confidently put in front of customers, partners, vendors, lenders, and the world.
